There are numerous things that I am putting together for upcoming posts, but in light of the news in the last few days, especially today, I decided to get a special post out as soon as possible.  What we are watching is another example of Biblical fulfillments in process, right before our eyes.  I have said much about what we are to expect in the soon coming days, but allow me to remind us of where this is headed.

I have been watching the ever-increasing chaos in Egypt,  as many of you have.  One of the things that many people are not aware of is that there appears to be a very serious preliminary war that Israel gets into before the better known “Gog & Magog” conflict described in Ezekiel 38 & 39.  For those that have heard me comment on this before, allow me to repeat a few things for those that are not so familiar.

In the book of Obadiah, Zephaniah, Psalms, and other short excerpts from others of the prophets in the Bible, we find that Israel will be involved in a huge war with all of its enemies that are immediately on its borders.  Even though it has been a volatile situation for Israel since its independence May 14, 1948, never has it been forming into the alliance that we are finding now.  This war is distinguished from the one in Ezekiel 38 & 39.  There is a detailed list of enemies that God says Israel will face in both of these wars, and they are not at all the same.

God’s Word is quite exact when He wants to make something clear to us, and this is one of those places.  Now that I’ve brushed over this once again, let’s look at the situation as it stands today.  Egypt has been embroiled in increasingly chaotic and violent demonstrations for eight or nine days now, and it is not going to let up until Mubarak’s government collapses.  Just today, the army has begun to attempt to calm the people down and try to get them to go home.  So far, the results aren’t looking so good.  There have been several news articles within the last few hours describing the people beginning to  attack each other.  There is evidence that Mubarak’s government has paid government supporters to go out and confront the masses that are demanding the ouster of Mubarak.  So far, the army has not attacked the people, but no one knows how long they will let the insurrection go on.

There are also some other factors involved.  Cairo is a city of many millions of people, and the chaos there is affecting normal life, including the deliveries of supplies.  This includes food as well as other necessities.  Many normal functions of the city have nearly stopped.  A major factor has to do with the “Islamic Brotherhood”, waiting in the wings.  They were rather quiet at the beginning but are now coming out with statements that indicate what their true agenda is.  We know that they have a great hatred for Israel, and Israel is already making adjustments for what they know is probably coming.

One thing that I have noticed in the last 24 hours may be the direct fulfillment of a prophecy that many of us are not familiar with.  “…See, the Lord rides on a swift cloud and is coming to Egypt.  The idols of Egypt tremble before him, and the hearts of the Egyptians nelt within them.  I will stir up Egyptian against Egyptian—brother will fight against brother, neighbor against neighbor, city against city, kingdom against kingdom.  The Egyptians will lose heart, and I will bring their plans to nothing; they will consult the idols and the spirits of the dead, the mediums and the spiritists.  I will hand the Egyptians over to the power of a cruel master, and a fierce king will rule over them, declares the Lord, the Lord Almighty.” (Isaiah 19: 1-4, NIV).  Could it be that this is what we are watching on TV today?

Another part of this developing problem is the man who has come out of nowhere and is being considered for leadership when Mubarak is gone.  This man’s name is Mohamed ElBaradei.  He is highly educated and finished his education with a PHD at New York University.  He also lived in the States for 15 years.  He has served in several government positions in Egypt, but still is not well known.  There are three things that should trouble us about this man.

1.  He is an apologist for Iran

2.  He has demonstrated his anti-Israeli attitudes

3.  He is also an apologist for the Muslim Brotherhood.

This is the man that seems to be pushed to the forefront by the Muslim Brotherhood.  This man is not the soft-spoken, well educated “nice guy” that he is portrayed to be.

These demonstrations in Egypt are spreading.  I have already shown in another news post that Egypt is not the only one facing volatile demonstrations.  Tens of thousands of people are demonstrating in Yemen, Lebanon, Algeria, Jordan and other locations to a greater or lesser degree.  Tomorrow, on February the 3rd, there is a “Day of Rage” planned for Yemen, and it is also directed against existing leadership.

The most troubling of all at this time however is Jordan.  Jordan has already had demonstrations with tens of thousands in number.  The king of Jordan has taken some steps to try and avoid what is happening in Egypt.  He has fired his entire cabinet. He has also installed a new prime minister, but the problem is much bigger than what King Hussein is going to be able to handle.

Jordan is populated by three ancient peoples.  In the north are the Amorites, in the central portion the Moabites have their home, and in the south are the ancient Edomites.  The Bible says that these peoples will be destroyed just before the Day of the Lord.  In fact, Zephaniah says that the conflict has much to do with Israel’s national border.  Have you noticed how many news articles have to do with the borders of Israel?  It’s a continual problem, but will eventually be resolved by God Himself.  God says the land is His land.  God does not say this about the land of any other location on earth like He does of the land of Israel.

The result of the the war that is brewing at the time of this writing, appears to be the expansion of the land of Israel.  In fact, its size will be greatly expanded.  Jordan led the attack in 1948 and was also part of the coalition against Israel in 1967.  This war looks like it will be Jordan’s last.  All of the efforts by the king of Jordan in the last few days will fall short.  About 70% of the population of Jordan is Palestinian, and the Palestinians want nothing but the utter obliteration of the Israelite people.  It won’t happen.

Several days ago, one of the main leaders of the Muslim Brotherhood said that the unrest we are seeing will spread clear across the entire Arab world and every leader that supports the United States in any way will be toppled.

How long it will take for this unrest to affect every Arab nation with U.S. ties is uncertain, but if one looks at all the facts and threats, it could be very, very soon.  The Muslim brotherhood has already said that Egypt should prepare for war with Israel.  They have also stated that the Suez canal should be shut down immediately.  We have no idea how badly that would affect our economy here in the U.S.  The problem will go way beyond the cost of oil going to $150 a barrel or maybe even to $200.  It will drastically drive up prices for all commodities that we are so used to seeing on the shelves of our favorite supermarket.

I’ve been warning for a long time already that we need to get ourselves prepared for these kind of difficulties, but it is against our nature to do so.  Americans aren’t accustomed to experiencing lack.  In fact, most Christian people feel that it shows a lack of faith in God’s provision to set some things aside.  Yet, the Bible is pretty clear on God having given us the ability to plan for lean times.  This is in God’s Word.  I pray that you the reader, will see that things are changing in a way we never expected.  I’ve been saying for a couple years now that we live in a different time than every before.  I would suggest that you pray and ask for wisdom in how to deal with things that appear to be developing quicker than anyone thought.  Food prices could be out of range by this spring already.  The military leadership has already been warned by the administration that food shortage riots could very well hit our cities by May, 2011.  Whether that happens, remains to be seen.  God does take care of His own, but His own also listen to the voice of the Holy Spirit for instructions.  It’s always been that way in the life of Christians throughout history.

Keep Looking Up!

Jake

  1. Praise God for people like you, Jake. I don’t think God left us His Holy word to make the bible be on the best seller list. Ignoring the warnings of the bible is like ignoring the low fuel light in your car.
