We read in Scripture many things that man, in his limited capacity to understand, will find difficult to accept as truth. One of the most common is the birth of Messiah Jesus to a young Jewish virgin named Mary. Many see this as nothing more than a religious fantasy or fairy tale. Others throughout the centuries have said that this story was a fanciful way of covering up the fact that young Mary and Joseph had become sexually intimate during their year of betrothal before their actual marriage, or that Mary had committed fornication with someone else during that time.
As we read the Holy Scriptures we must allow for the supernatural. Our Creator God is a supernatural God and what He does is far beyond our finite abilities. If we try to limit God to what can be humanly explained or accomplished, we will miss the roadmap He has inspired to be written for us to follow. All of this is said as introduction to one of the very most important events in Scripture: the supernatural conception of Jesus Christ, the son of man and the Son of God. He was not half man and half God. He was all man, yet 100% God. Now, let’s examine this most unusual birth and the facts about His Blood that must not be compromised if we are to understand about God’s intervention on behalf of the fallen human race .
It is a medical fact that the blood which flows in an unborn baby’s arteries and veins is not derived from the mother, but is produced only after the introduction of the male sperm. It is the male who is the source of the blood. If Jesus was to be the answer to the hopeless condition of the human race, He could have NONE of Adam’s blood in His veins. Jesus was conceived of the Spirit of God. In other words, the Almighty God provided the supernatural pure “seed” that would unite with Mary’s human egg, giving the child the blood of the Father, blood untarnished by sin that every descendant of Adam is born with. The mother supplies nutrients for the developing embryo but absolutely none of the mother’s blood ever passes from the mother to the child. This means that when the virgin Mary was carrying Jesus in her womb, medically speaking, she nourished His body (flesh), but none of her “sin blood” was passed to Him. It was the Holy Spirit of God who supplied the “seed” for Jesus’ conception, and the divine blood for His body.
Since it is the blood of Jesus Christ through the Holy Spirit, it is also the divine blood of God the Father. The blood that flowed through the veins of Jesus Christ’s body while He was on Earth came from God the Father, alone. Jesus Christ had divine, sinless, non-human blood while He was on this planet. If it had not been so, it would have been impossible for Him to live a sinless life. He would have been infected with inbred sin from conception—just like all of us are.
Here is an important point to understand, as eternity is at stake! Whether a person accepts or denies the uniqueness of the Blood of Jesus and its power to forgive sin determines a person’s eternal destiny! This is why Jesus said that He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No man comes to the Father except through Him.
For our general understanding, this would be a good time to give a wider definition of the word “sin”. The definition for the original word has four main meanings:
- the individual acts of sin people do throughout their lives, like steal, kill, lie, commit adultery, etc.
- the organized force that is against us as humans including the devil, fallen angels, and demons that use the weakness of our flesh to cause us to sin with the individual acts above.
- the curse on the human body and creation itself: sickness, aging, physical deterioration; enmity between the human race and the animal kingdom; the flaws in nature which include everything from thorns, thistles and weeds; catastrophes which could include earthquakes, volcanoes, violent storms, cosmic disasters, etc. (Sometimes God uses these things as judgments, but even when He does not, man is relegated to having to live with these effects of the curse until Jesus the Messiah returns to set the world and all of creation straight).
- the inbred sin-condition every human being is born with as a descendant of Adam.
It is this last definition of sin that is the most important for us to understand if we are to truly understand why Jesus had to be born of a virgin. All of the definitions of sin are a problem for mankind, but the inbred sin problem is the condition he can do nothing at all about without God’s intervention. We can choose not to lie, kill, or steal and we can even resist the devil. We can pull the weeds in our garden and still produce crops. We can avoid walking into danger where wild animals live and we can attempt to be prepared as best we can for disasters that come on the entire human race. None of us, however, can do anything whatsoever about the fact that we were born into sin. As soon as we are conceived, we are already condemned and need a supernatural solution that none of us can earn or supply for ourselves. In the book of Romans we have several verses that we need to look at:
As it is written: “There is none righteous, no, not one; there is none who understands; there is none who seeks after God. They have all turned aside; they have together become unprofitable; there is none who does good, no, not one. Their throat is an open tomb; with their tongues they have practiced deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips; whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness. Their feet are swift to shed blood; destruction and misery are in their ways; and the way of peace they have not known. There is no fear of God before their eyes.” (Romans 3:10-18, NKJV)
Verse 23 goes on:
…for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God…
Verses 24-26 :
…being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, whom God set forth as a propitiation by His blood, through faith, to demonstrate His righteousness, because in His forbearance God had passed over the sins that were previously committed, to demonstrate at the present time his righteousness, that He might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.
A short explanation of the verses above tells us that all mankind is in a condition of sin from birth. Children have the sin-nature within them when they are born. No one has to teach them to lie, lose their temper, or hit someone. It comes quite naturally. As we get older, without a cleansing which brings a change of our nature, we will naturally become more corrupt. But, through the change of nature which comes through the blood of Jesus, we are set free and forever forgiven for our past. Not only that, we have become a new creation in Him. Our entire nature changes! 2 Corinthians 5:17-21 puts it like this:
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation, that is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their tresspasses to them, and has committed to us the word of reconciliation. Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us; we implore you on Christ’s behalf, be reconciled to God. For he made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.
As God recreates us, reconciling us to Himself, we then are given a ministry of reconciliation. We are given the ability and power through the Spirit of God to make more disciples. Through this the true Kingdom of God is built until the KING Himself calls His true believers into His presence!
In our world there are all kinds of counterfeit belief systems. Before Jesus ascended back to His throne, He warned again and again that there would be many deceivers, false prophets, false christs upon the Earth. In fact, He warned that right at the end of the end of days, there would be a great delusion coming upon mankind that great multitudes would fall for because they refuse to believe the truth…so God gives them over to the lie! Below are some Scriptures that speak of this:
Then if anyone says to you, “look, here is the Christ!” or “”There!” do not believe it. For false christs and false prophets will rise and show great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect. See, I have told you beforehand. Therefore if they say to you, “Look, He is in the desert!” do not go out; or “Look, He is in the inner rooms!” do not believe it. For as the lightning comes from the east and flashes to the west, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. (Matthew 24:23-27)
There is a long list of these false christs that have come and gone. Some of them are alive today and are deceiving great numbers of people. For everything that is genuine, there will always be a counterfeit. This is especially true with religion.
For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only He who now restrains will do so until He is taken out of the way. And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord will consume with the breath of His mouth and destroy with the brightness of His coming. The coming of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan, with all power, signs, and lying wonders, and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this reason God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe the lie that they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness. (2 Thessalonians 2:7-12)
Even the Jewish people, the very people who were looking for the Messiah, missed the first coming of the Messiah! They had all the Scriptural prophecies written by all the great prophets of old. Yet they did not recognize Him. After Jesus had been crucified, rose again, and ascended back to heaven, there were numerous self-proclaimed Jewish messiahs. Multitudes followed them even though they did not have Scriptural credentials as Jesus did. It cost hundreds of thousands their lives. In our day, this will happen as well. In the above Scripture, we are told of the mystery of lawlessness being in the world throughout the entire Church Age. But, it will culminate in the Man of Sin himself–the Antichrist. Most of the world will fall for him, including most of the Jewish nation. He will be exposed in the middle of the Great Tribulation however, and at the end of this terrible time, Jesus will return as KING of Kings and LORD of Lords, and will destroy this usurper.
We are warned that there is a time coming when people will not tolerate “sound doctrine”. We have arrived at the crescendo of such a time. The Apostle Paul described this time in 2 Timothy:
For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside in fables. But you be watchful in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry. (2 Timothy 4:3-5)
In the previous chapter Paul wrote these words:
But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away! (2 Timothy 3:1-5)
The last two Scriptures above describe our time in history more than any other before it. False prophets, false “holy” books, and false teachers instruct their followers to kill, maim, destroy properties, rape, mutilate, and crucify anyone that believes differently than they believe. This is not just happening within the Islamic societies, although its the most pronounced within Islam today. It is also happening within the race wars in other nations, including with the race-baiting riots within America. Satan is a lying deceiver and has an intense hatred of the human race. Jesus said that the devil steals, kills, and destroys, but that He (Jesus) came to give life, and life more abundantly. What Jesus preached and taught is unique in that He is the only One who has taught His followers to love their enemies! Jesus Himself prayed for the Father to forgive those who were crucifying Him! Is this kind of sacrificial love taught by any other religion on Earth today?
It is of the utmost importance that we allow Jesus, the true Messiah, to have Lordship in our lives. It is only His blood that can cleanse us from all sin and set us free, giving us a glorious eternal inheritance, living with our God in the heaven that has been designed and created for us from before the foundations of the Earth were laid! John 8 has some tremendous eternal foundational truths in it and so I am including it in its entirety from verses 12-59:
Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.” The Pharisees therefore said to Him, “You bear witness of Yourself; Your witness is not true.” Jesus answered and said to them, “Even if I bear witness of Myself, My witness is true, for I know where I came from and where I am going, but you do not know where I come from and where I am going. You judge according to the flesh; I judge no one. And yet if I do judge, My judgment is true; for I am not alone, but I am with the Father who sent me. It is also written in your law that the testimony of two men is true. I am One who bears witness of myself, and the Father who sent me bears witness of me. Then they said to him, “Where is Your Father?” Jesus answered, “You know neither Me nor My Father. If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also.” These words Jesus spoke in the treasury, as he taught in the temple; and no one laid hands on Him, for his hour had not yet come.
Then Jesus said to them again, “I am going away, and you will seek Me, and will die in your sin. Where I go you cannot come.” So the Jews said, “Will He kill Himself, because he says, “Where I go you cannot come?” And He said to them, “You are from beneath; I am from above. You are of this world; I am not of this world. Therefore I said to you that you will die in your sins; for if you do not believe that I am He, you will die in your sins.” Then they said to Him, “Who are You?” And Jesus said to them, “Just what I have been saying to you from the beginning. I have many things to say and to judge concerning you, but He who sent Me is true; and I speak to the world those things which I heard from Him.” They did not understand that He spoke to them of the Father. Then Jesus said to them, “When you lift up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am He, and that I do nothing of Myself; but as My Father taught Me, I speak these things. And He who sent Me is with Me. The Father has not left Me alone, for I always do those things that please Him. As He spoke these words, many believed Him.
Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. ANd you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” They answered Him, “We are Abraham’s descendants, and have never been in bondage to anyone. How can You say, “You will be made free?” Jesus answered them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin. And a slave does not abide in the house forever, but a son abides forever. Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed. I know that you are Abraham’s descendants, but you seek to kill Me, because My word has no place in you. I speak what I have seen with My Father, and you do what you have seen with your father. They answered and said to Him, “Abraham is our father,” Jesus said to them, “If you were Abraham;s children, you would do the works of Abraham. But now you seek to kill Me, a Man who has told you the truth which I heard from God. Abraham did not do this. You do the deeds of your father.” then they said to him, “We were not born of fornication; we have one Father–God.” Jesus said to them, “If God were your Father, you would love Me, for I proceeded forth and came from God; nor have I come of Myself, but He sent me. Why do you not understand my speech? because you are not able to listen to my word. You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it. But because I tell the truth, you do not believe Me. Which of you convicts me of sin? and if I tell the truth, why do you not believe Me? He who is of God hears God’s words; therefore you do not hear, because you are not of God.
Then the Jews answered and said to Him, “Do we not say rightly that You are a Samaritan and have a demon?” Jesus answered, “I do not have a demon; but I honor My Father, and you dishonor me. and I do not seek My own glory; there is One who seeks and judges. Most assuredly, I say to you, if anyone keeps My word he shall never see death.” Then the Jews said to Him, “Now we know that You have a demon! Abraham is dead, and the prophets; and You say, “If anyone keeps My word he shall never taste death.” Are you greater than our father Abraham, who is dead? And the prophets are dead. Who do You make Yourself out to be?” Jesus answered, “If I honor Myself, My honor is nothing. It is My Father who honors me, of whom you say that He is your God. Yet you have not known Him, but I know him. And if I say, ‘I do not know Him, I shall be a liar like you; but I do know him and keep his word. Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day, and he saw it and was glad.” Then the Jews said to him, “You are not yet fifty years old, and have You seen Abraham? Jesus said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM.” Then they took up stones to throw at Him; but Jesus hid Himself and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by.
In this passage we find quite a conflict between the Jewish Scribes and Pharisees. These men were doctors of the law of Moses but were so steeped in religion that they could not recognize the Son of God when He was standing right in front of them. These men had been so mulish in their stubborn arrogant attitudes that Jesus said some things that were intended to irritate them a bit. He was trying to get them to come to grips with their spiritual blindness.
When Jesus, late in this passage, spoke of His relationship with Abraham, He made a statement that an orthodox Jew would understand but few others would. When Jesus said, “Before Abraham was, I AM,” they knew that He was saying that He is God. He was claiming within their hearing, that He was the Eternal One. This of course, even though it brings up the difficult doctrine of the Triune God, will bring us full-circle back to the Blood.
Who is the triune God? He is God the Father, God the Son (The Word), and God the Holy Spirit. There are not three Gods, but there are three distinct persons within the Godhead which are the one and only true God. Jesus was never called the “Son of God” until after being born of the virgin Mary. All over the world we find religious groups trying to make the Trinity something that it is not. I believe the trinity of God is well encapsulated in the first four verses of John 1:
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.
Here, we find the “Word” mentioned. Other Scriptures confirm that “The Word” is Jesus. Then this passage makes sure that we understand that the Word was with God (Who is the Father), but then goes on to say that the Word also is God! Then it adds the detail that everything that was created was created by the Word, or Jesus. The last phrase and the Light of Men refers to the third person of the Trinity, the Holy Spirit.
So, to put it all together, “God exists in three ever-present simultaneous modes: Absolute and unchanging, exuberantly creative. The word GOD is used to reflect the absolute and unchanging aspect of God’s reality, “Word” to refer to the exuberantly creative aspect of God’s existence (Jesus), and Light of men to refer to God as the Holy Spirit.”
This brings us back full circle to the Blood of Jesus. Man’s cure had to come from God. Man could not come up with a cure of his own. Angels had no cure. It had to be GOD. Before the foundation of the Earth had ever been laid, God had made the decision that the second member of the Triune God would enter the human race by being born of the virgin Mary. He would be all man, but have no blood tainted by the human race’s fall into sin. His blood was God’s blood. By spilling His own blood, He became the Lamb of God who shed His blood for the sins of the world. His blood was so potent that it will ultimately cleanse not only the human race, and the Earth, but all of the heavenlies that have been corrupted by the fallen Lucifer. That blood ensures that it can never happen again!
And all the people said, “Amen!”

In Part 7 we will discuss the Blood and Eternal Life
