There is a flowing, the flowing of a river
Moving down its banks, gathering strength
Taking all in its wake without a quiver
Sending it along its full length–
There is a moving, the moving of time
Pushing towards an end, isn’t it a mystery?
Many clocks strike count, join in the chime
I wonder, is there direction to history?—
____________
Oh the flowing, the flowing of the river
Moving ever towards the sea
Oh the moving, the moving of time
Flowing ever despite my plea—
______________
Where is the end to man’s quest?
So many voices from sage and fool
Be it at angel or demon’s behest
We live our lives and join the duel–
Many are the prophets who claim to tell
Signs that lead to heaven or hell
Only One has built an ark to stay
The Carpenter who said, “I AM the way”—
______________
Oh the flowing, the flowing of the river
Moving ever towards the sea
Oh the moving, the moving of time
Flowing ever eternally-
Jake
Very good Jake. Very appropriate for the “time” we live in.
Thank you Sharon. I wrote this a few years ago but struggled with a suitable melody to put with it. It might be time to try again.
